Appreciate The Funk

–  So my father was a HUGE Funk Music fan and as an offspring of  the “Funk” era, its safe to say – its in my blood and apart of my child hood upbringing (outside of the Aaliyah’s, TLC’S, Pac and so on). This was the music I was listening to, on full blast, to and from school. You can’t help but to feel the good energy from that  funkadelic sound!

Go ahead and boogie down to a  few all time funk favs, brought to you by Parliament Funkadelic, Slave & Morris Day and The Time.

Music Monday. Pilot Talk

Music Monday @ Sticky Vinyll Presents –

Pilot Talk – Curren$y

I have always been a big fan of rap artist, Curren$y, AKA Da Hot Spitta, for his New Orleans energy, catchy lyrics and especially his love and many collaborations with Bay Area artist. I recently took an appreciated listen to his newest album, Pilot Talk and I’m really feeling his new mellow sound.

Here were two joints I thoroughly enjoyed:

Diesel X Mad Decent Block Party

10 Aug

Get Stupid!

The Diesel X Mad Decent Block Party event was definitely amongst my top 3 fav’s this summer. Artist such as Jasmine Salano, Ninja Sonik, Major Lazer and Maluca gave their full energized performances, keeping the crowd hyped and in party mode. What I really liked about this “Block Party” was that it was very diverse; we had the hipsters (of course), the ravers, and the cool afro-centric kids. Actually, this was the first concert I’ve been to where they were actually crowd surfing – nice. I give the Diesel X Mad Decent Block Party a two thumps all the way up!

Let’s take it back and pay respects to one of thee pioneers of  “reggae rappers”, Shinehead. Bursting into the New York reggae dance hall scene in the mid 80’s, it did not take long for Shinehead to tear up the sound systems. Shinehead brought versatility to hip hop/reggae fusion by mixing chatting, crooning, rapping, toasting and singing.  Growing up between Jamaica and America reflected Shinehead’s  sound in a very original and eclectic way. His music was a balance between positivity, love and social conciousness. Shinehead’s version of “Billie Jean” was what truly got his career booming, creating a buzz that would soon turn legendary. One of my favorite hits is “Know How to Fe Chat”, which is a REAL nice mix of hip hop and that street Jamaican sound.  As a west coaster and a young’n, I am just now being introduced to Shinehead and from first listen I am already a huge fan. Get put on or take it back, which ever fits and vibe with Shinehead.
